May 2025 Meeting Recap

This May, we dedicated the meeting to the Dear Jane quilt. Members Diane and Judy, presented the pattern and spoke about their vast experience creating and teaching Dear Jane quilts. Deborah and Samantha also spoke about their experiences making the pattern. We saw many different versions of the Dear Jane quilt made by our members, and have even started a digital group that is making their own Dear Jane quilt - if you want to join, please mention it at the registration table.

About the Dear Jane quilt:
Jane Stipple created her remarkable and innovative quilt in 1863, during the Civil War. The quilt features 169 distinct 4.5” blocks along with border triangles, showcasing her creativity and skill. The original quilt is displayed annually at the Bennington Museum in Vermont, from mid-September through Columbus Day. Enthusiasts who recreate this intricate pattern affectionately refer to themselves as “Janeiacs.” Within the “Dear Jane” community, there's even a hierarchy—those who complete the entire quilt earn the title of “goddess.” Dianne and Judy proudly hold the rank of “Demi Goddesses,” having completed a full Dear Jane quilt together. They’re passionate about teaching this project, as it allows for a wide range of techniques, including foundation piecing, English paper piecing (EPP), appliqué, and more.
